Challah-Baking Blessing | Art With Neshama

If you are an avid challah-baker this piece of art on unique slate stone is for you!

This ancient blessing is pronounced at the time of baking challah and was one of the agricultural commandments Moses instructed the Israelites.

"When you arrive in the Land to which I am bringing you, and you eat from the bread of the Land, you shall set aside a gift for G-d. The first portion of your dough, you shall separate a loaf for a gift; as in the case of the gift of the threshing floor, so shall you separate it. From the first portion of your dough you shall give a gift to G-d in [all] your generations".
During the time of the Mishkan (Tabernacle in the desert) and the time of the Temples, a small portion was given to the Cohanim (priests).

Today the small portion is burnt. This is the only agricultural commandment applicable to Jews living outside of Israel.
